Black Watch: A Soldier's Story
The National Theatre of Scotland’s production of Black Watch, by Gregory Burke, directed by John Tiffany, premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe on 1 August 2006. It went on to win numerous awards and has become known as a landmark piece of theatre.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the award-winning production, BBC Scotland will broadcast the documentary Black Watch: A Soldier's Story, directed and produced by Iain Scollay, and a filmed performance of Black Watch, filmed at Dingwall Academy.
Black Watch: A Soldier's Story
The documentary provides a fascinating insight into the genesis of Black Watch, the National Theatre of Scotland's portrayal of the Iraq War using eyewitness testimony, news reports and regimental song. The documentary was directed and produced by Iain Scollay and was first broadcast on BBC Two Scotland on 26 August 2007.
ArtWorks Scotland: The Black Watch
Black Watch is a hard-hitting play based on interviews with former soldiers, that combines words, music and song to deliver a frank and unvarnished account of a Scottish regiment serving in the Iraq war. This performance was filmed live at Dingwall Academy and first shown on BBC Two Scotland on 27 August 2007.
